Who cares if is freezing outside when you have an accordion and distorted guitars in front of you?

Definately 2022 doesn’t want to close without great shows in San Antonio, TX and last night wasn’t the exception!

Local band Piñata Protest performed to a small crowd in a very intimate concert at the Malú and Carlos Alvarez Theater located at Texas Public Radio headquarters who hosted this event and dear friends, it was incredible!

For those who’ve never heard about this band, you don’t know what you are missing. This band is a mix of Punk, Rock, Ska, Tex-Mex, Polka and singing in English and Spanish.

Piñata Protest is in the house!

The band, integrated by Alvaro Del Norte in voice/accordion, Chris-Ruptive in drums, Richie Brown in bass and Regino Lopez in guitars really know how to engage with the crowd and what it seemed to be a relax night to enjoy their music was the totally oposite.

The band started with a cover from Los Tucanes De Tijuana “La Chona” followed by “Vato Perrón” and “El Valiente”. The crowd was a little shy and didn’t know if they needed to stay on their seats being inside a really small theater or stand up. Alvaro kept asking for people to jump off their seats and dance, but people was still unsure how to interact.

But, during Vicente Fernandez cover “Volver Volver” when a guest from the crowd was invited to give a “norteño scream” things got more relax, people started to move a little bit more to the point were Alvaro said “Ok, all of you sitting in front of me, stand up, fold your chairs and put them on the side and let’s start dancing!” and the mosh pit started!

Not allowed to stay in your seat!

The band continued the show with more great songs and definitely the crowd had a great and fun night. We got the hear one of the people who joined the  crowd dancing “This is my first mosh pit and it was awesome!!” with a very visible smile on his face.

“Life On The Border”, “California Girl”, “Crusty Cumbia” and “La Cucaracha” were part of the set list the band performed and the crowd didn’t went back to their seats. No doubt this was a fun show for a Tuesday night!
