On this day in 1985, one of the greatest events in the history of rock was held around the world, Live Aid!
Live Aid were two concerts organized by the leader and vocalist of the rock band The Boomtown Rats Bob Geldof, and the leader and vocalist of the pop band Ultravox Midge Ure, performed simultaneously on July 13, 1985 at Wembley Stadium in London with about 72,000 attendees and at the John F. Kennedy in Philadelphia with almost 90,000 people with the sole purpose of raising funds for the benefit of the countries of East Africa, specifically Ethiopia and Somalia.
16 HOURS OF ROCK 'N' ROLL!
During this event, great bands passed through the stages such as Queen, U2, Dire Straits, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Judas Priest, The Who and performers such as Mick Jagger, Tina Turner, Eric Clapton and Phil Collins, Elton John, among others.
Live Aid lasted more than 16 hours, was viewed by more than 3000 million people around the globe and raised more than $125 million.
