So happy to be back in the desert!
Another year we get the opportunity to cover the incredible event that is Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in the desert of California and dear friends, it never stops surprising us with the huge variety of music styles, the art, and the fantastic vibe you can feel wherever you walk.
Day one was a musical kaleidoscope, from the rap of Young Miko to the pop of Sabrina Carpenter and from the Latin-Trap of Bizarrap and rock of Deftones to the corridos tumbados of Peso Pluma and the dream-pop of Lana Del Rey, the first day had it all!
Our adventure this year started very early intending to arrive at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden site during the morning to get our media credentials, but after a few hiccups on our way from Los Angeles to the festival due to heavy traffic, we were able to get there around 4 PM to start our Coachella Weekend 2, Day One coverage that delivered an unforgettable experience with an eclectic lineup that showcased the festival’s diverse musical spirit.
Let the festival begin!
The first act we were able to see was Puerto Rican Young Miko. Her mix of reggaeton and Latin trap brought a unique edge to the festival. The crowd danced non-stop, vibing with her rhythmic beats and bold lyrics. She captivated the audience with her infectious energy and dynamic stage presence. From there we ran to enjoy the pop and nu-disco of French band L’Impératrice who kicked things off at the Outdoor stage with their funky, disco-infused pop that immediately set the groove for the day. Their smooth melodies and retro vibes got the crowd moving, providing a perfect warm-up for the evening’s lineup.
We had to go back to the main Coachella stage where a highlight of the day was starting, Sabrina Carpenter, who captivated the crowd with her effervescent energy and catchy pop tunes, creating a joyful atmosphere that had everyone singing along. Her charisma and playful interaction with the audience made her set a standout moment early in the day. She was so much fun to see and fans really love her. They didn’t stop singing along with her.
Changing gears from the strong female presence of the first acts we enjoyed, it was the turn for some male bands, and what a way to start with Deftones. The iconic alt-metal band, delivered a powerhouse performance that was both intense and atmospheric. Their heavy guitar riffs and Chino Moreno’s haunting vocals captivated fans, creating a mesmerizing experience that was both raw and emotional. It was great to see them playing together.
From there we ran to the distant Sahara stage were Bizarrap was coming next. The Argentine producer turned up the heat with his pulsating beats and high-octane set. His signature style of mixing Latin trap with electronic elements kept the energy levels soaring, with the crowd bouncing to every drop and beat. It was impressive to see the strong connection he has with his fans.
After that, we went to visit the new stage at Coachella, Quasar, which was hosting Rüfüs Du Sol (DJ Set) with Jon George and James Hunt which had a large crowd dancing nonstop! The seamless transitions and immersive soundscapes transported the crowd to another realm. The mesmerizing light displays and synchronized visuals enhanced the experience, creating a spellbinding atmosphere that kept the audience excited. And to keep the same vibe, we enjoyed a short portion of Everything Always (Dom Dolla + John Summit) who brought an upbeat and energetic vibe to Coachella, injecting a burst of indie-pop energy into the festival. Their lively performance was filled with catchy hooks and infectious tunes that had the crowd singing and dancing along.
The phenomenon "Peso Pluma"
Peso Pluma’s Coachella 2024 show was a high-energy celebration of Latin music that had the crowd dancing from start to finish. His unique fusion of regional Mexican sounds with urban and reggaeton beats made for an unforgettable performance. As he took the stage, the audience erupted in cheers, and his infectious charisma quickly drew everyone in. Peso Pluma’s hit songs like “Rubicon”, “Rosa Pastel”, “Ella Baila Sola”, “Qlona” and “Lady Gaga” resonated with the crowd, sparking massive sing-alongs and nonstop movement. To make his show even better, he had some special guests on stage: Anitta, Chencho Corleone, DJ Snake, Eslabon Armado, Jasiel Nuñez and Ryan Castro. It was a fiesta of sound and spirit that Coachella won’t soon forget.
Lana Del Rey
Finally, Lana Del Rey closed the day with a mesmerizing set that blended her dreamy, melancholic sound with a touch of glamour. The moment she arrived with her crew riding motorcycles and stepped on stage, the crowd was mesmerized by her ethereal presence and hauntingly beautiful vocals. Lana effortlessly blended her classic hits with her tracks, creating an atmospheric journey that captivated every listener. The lush arrangements and sweeping melodies painted a dreamy backdrop under the desert sky. As she sang “Summertime Sadness”, “Video Games,” and “Young And Beautiful” the audience swayed, singing along in perfect harmony. Her intimate interactions with fans and heartfelt stories made the night even more special. It was a breathtaking performance that left the entire festival in a state of captivated amazement, solidifying her status as a Coachella legend.
Overall, Coachella Weekend 2, Day One, was a rollercoaster of genres and styles, each artist bringing something unique to the stage. From pop to reggaeton, metal to electronic, the day was a thrilling celebration of music’s diverse landscape, leaving fans buzzing with excitement for the rest of the weekend.
