So fortunate they included our city!
After delivering an impressive free show to almost 160,000 people at Zócalo Square in Mexico City just a couple of weeks ago—the biggest show of their career—Interpol was set to play in San Antonio, Texas last night, as part of their 5-date ‘Interpoleros’ tour. Given this opportunity to see them live, we didn’t think twice before jumping into our car and heading to the Boeing Center at Tech Port to catch the New York-based band, Interpol.
Together with bands Glare (Rio Grande, TX) and Él Mató A Un Policía Motorizado (Argentina) the three bands brought their unique styles and captivated the audience.
GLARE
The night started with alternative rock band from the Rio Grande Valley, GLARE, who delivered an electrifying performance that left the crowd buzzing with excitement. The 5-member band is not only familiar with the Texas scene, but with major festivals such as Sick New World festival in Las Vegas, NV where they share the stage with big names such as System Of A Down, Slipknot, and Alice In Chains and also were part of SXSW 2024 lineup.
With their atmospheric sound, the audience was submerged into a captivating musical journey that felt both immersive and surreal. Songs “Blank”, and “Do Not Enter” were part of the short but powerful setlist.
ÉL MATÓ A UN POLICÍA MOTORIZADO
It was 7:45 PM when Argentinian band Él Mató A Un Policía Motorizado took the stage. Their blend of indie rock and melodic punk created an energetic and engaging atmosphere. From the moment they took the stage, their infectious sound and raw energy drew everyone in. Perhaps there were not a lot of people who heard the band before, but after this show, they clearly won more fans. Singer Santiago’s “Motorizado” unique voice captivated the audience. Some of the songs they included in their set list were “El Magnetismo”, “El Tesoro”, “Medalla De Oro” and “Chica De Oro.”
INTERPOL
It was a little bit after 9:00 PM when INTERPOL took the stage in the middle of a euphoric crowd! For many, this was the first time seeing them live and it was exciting to have them right here in San Antonio.
From the moment they put a foot on stage, the magic started. They delivered a mesmerizing performance that captivated the audience from start to finish, the energy was palpable, with Paul Banks’ haunting vocals and the band’s distinctive post-punk revival sound setting the tone for the night. The venue was filled with an electric buzz, and fans couldn’t wait to hear their favorite tracks.
The setlist was a balanced mix of iconic hits and deep cuts, offering a journey through Interpol’s extensive discography. Songs like “C’mere”, “Say Hello To The Angels” and “My Desire” ignited a wave of excitement, with the crowd singing along to every word. The atmospheric lighting and minimalist stage design enhanced the band’s enigmatic presence, creating an immersive experience that drew everyone in.
A powerful band on stage
Interpol’s tight musicianship and seamless transitions between songs demonstrated their mastery of live performance. Daniel Kessler’s guitar work was both powerful and intricate, weaving intricate melodies that complemented the driving basslines and precise drumming. Drummer Sam Fogarino couldn’t join this tour due to spinal surgery major surgery last year, still, his replacement intensity kept the energy high, while Banks‘ commanding presence anchored the entire performance.
