A great night with 3 bands under one roof!
Mexican sibling duo Jesse & Joy continued to bring up the heat in San Antonio by bringing their “Summer Tour 2023″ to the Aztec Theatre, delivering a delightfully wonderful performance!
And for almost 3 hours, thousands of fans enjoyed a night full of great music on a Tuesday night at the Alamo City with 3 different acts, Montufar, Francisca Valenzuela, and Jesse & Joy.
Of course, we couldn’t miss a show like this so we drove to the venue to bring you some photos and a review of what we experienced.

MONTUFAR
Before Jesse & Joy took the stage, Montufar was the local opening act for the show. They are another extremely talented sibling duo, setting their hometown stage perfectly for their set.
Having just sold out a headline show in Mexico City with their mix of indie rock and alternative pop styles, Victor and Maria Fernanda displayed great musicianship between the two. They treated the audience with a few songs like “Escaparnos” that have contributed to the attention they have received thus far and even threw in an unexpected cover of Taylor Swift’s “August” accompanied by some lively ukulele playing.
For their last song, “Ojos,” they even brought out a saxophone player that was a perfect accompaniment to the duo’s serene performance.

FRANCISCA VALENZUELA
The other opening act of the night was Francisca Valenzuela, a Chilean-American singer and multi-instrumentalist. Right from the start of her set, she captivated the crowd with her talent on the piano, her range of vocals and her energy as a performer.
As it was her first time performing in San Antonio, she expressed her admiration for the history and culture that is clearly present in the city.
With her flowing yellow dress and bright red microphone, she was very expressive on stage. Her songs conveyed her emotions during the performance of songs that touched on themes of romance and even one about breaking free from a toxic relationship. The mix of all these elements Valenzuela brought to the stage left a lasting impression on the Aztec crowd.

JESSE & JOY
The lights finally dimmed at 9:05, with the crowd fully ready for Jesse & Joy. Their Latin pop music has accumulated great praise throughout Latin America, and it was wonderful to be able to witness it at the beautiful Aztec Theatre.
The show kicked off with “Imagina” and “Duele” with the crowd already knowing every single word. During “Ya No Quiero,” Jesse impressed with a slick guitar solo, while the backing band on bass, drums, and keys were all playful and having just as much fun as everyone else in the room.

There was a stunning use of lighting that surrounded the musicians throughout the show in various shades of colors. Jesse’s guitar playing would be highlighted in bright reds and blues, while Joy’s vocals would be highlighted in subtle whites that superbly unified the duo.
Highlights of their setlist included “La de La Mala Suerte,” a singalong so loud you could hear the crowd lose their voices. There was also a great acoustic session where the musicians performed a few songs sitting at the center of the stage, creating an intimate feeling with the fans.

They ended the night with a three-song encore that included “Espacio Sideral,” “3 A.M.,” and they, of course, could not leave San Antonio without singing their signature song, “¡Corre!” The Aztec lit up with every single cell phone in the air, as voices filled the venue singing, “Así que corre, corre, corre, corazón” alongside the musicians’ incredible performance of what has remained an iconic song over the last 12 years.

As Jesse, Joy, and the rest of their band took an adoring bow on stage, the fans showered them with cheers for delivering a great performance, hoping they will see them back in San Antonio much sooner rather than later.
