An epic night with two incredible bands!
What a night! We just came back from watching The Marts Volta and Teri Gender Bender concert at the Boeing Center at Tech Port in San Antonio, TX and we honestly have to say it was an impressive show.
The energy, the music, the visuals, everything from both bands was amazing!
The Mars Volta, same as Teri Gender Bender, have this particular style that captivates your attention as soon as they start playing making it even hard to blink because you don’t want to miss anything that is happening on stage.
Of course, we couldn’t miss this show so, we went to the Boeing Center to bring you what we experienced and photos of the bands.
TERI GENDER BENDER
The night started with Teri Gender Bender. She’s a Mexican singer-songwriter and guitarist who also fronts the punk rock band Le Butcherettes. She is also a collaborator of The Mars Volta and has appeared on some of their albums. Yes, she’s the whole deal!
Teri is such a talented and energetic performer, and her music is amazing. She played songs such as “Syrya Ignore”, “The Get Up”, “Misery & Us”, “Catspeak”, and “Like No One Else” from her latest album which contains a photo of a cat on the album cover, which was also on the t-shirt of all the band members.
THE MARS VOLTA
It was 9:03 PM when the music of the venue stopped and the progressive rock band from El Paso, TX formed by Omar Alfredo Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler-Zavala put a foot on stage, joined by an incredible group of musicians who complement this great band, The Mars Volta!
If you have never heard them, they are a progressive rock band that combines elements of jazz, funk, metal, and psychedelic rock. They are also known for their complex and experimental compositions, as well as their explosive live performances.
Both Omar and Cedric transmit a lot of energy and euphoria from the stage that is impossible not to engage with their music when you see them live.
The band played a mix of old and new songs from basically every of their 8 studio albums, from “Inertiatic ESP” to “Wax Simulacra” to “The Whip Hand” and some of their latest album “Que Dios Te Maldiga Mi Corazón”.
They sounded tight and powerful, with intricate rhythms and melodies that kept changing and surprising. The singer Cedric Bixler-Zavala had an amazing voice that ranged from high-pitched falsettos to low growls.
Guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez was a master of his instrument, creating sonic landscapes with his effects pedals and shredding solos with ease. The rest of the band was equally impressive.
If you are a fan of progressive rock or punk rock or just good music in general, I highly recommend you check out The Marts Volta and Teri Gender Bender. They are two of the most original and talented artists in the scene today.
